Matsumoto Hoji Frog String Art Kit
Grumpy, timeless, iconic. The Matsumoto Hoji Frog String Art Kit is based on an 1814 Japanese woodblock print—one that might look simple at first glance, but hides a clever satirical twist. With its unmistakable glum expression, this frog was painted by Matsumoto Hoji to poke fun at the overly serious scholars of his time—and now, he’s ready to hang out on your wall.
This is Kit #15 in our growing collection, and part of our upcoming Classic Art series. With 142 nails, two rich shades of brown thread, and a vertical layout that keeps it close to the original, it’s a slightly more detailed build—best suited for those who enjoy a bit of quiet focus and a lot of personality in their crafts.
The Complete Kit includes our custom pinhead hammer, or choose the Basic Kit if you already have suitable tools at home. Either way, you’ll receive a pre-cut board, nail holder, template, tweezers, and clear instructions—everything you need to recreate this quietly rebellious little frog in string form.
As Mungo says:
“Don’t take it personally—he looks at everyone like that.”
